The Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta who made her home in Fricktal, Aargau, some years ago, saw a dream come true with the first Solsberg Festival in June 2006: making music with like-minded artists in a historically significant environment and presenting fascinating programmes played by a select circle of musicians. The festivals held so far have elicited an enthusiastic response from audiences and the press, attracting a fast-growing number of visitors from all over Europe.
The musicians performing at the Solsberg Festival have won all major international awards. They are at the height of a brilliant career and undoubtedly belong to the new generation of world-class soloists.
With this small-scale but exquisite festival the Basel region has added a veritable gem to the musical landscape of north-west Switzerland. The baroque abbey church Olsberg and the parish church of St. Martin Rheinfelden provide an incomparably solemn setting for the festival, which takes place in June of each year.
Christoph Müller is the founder and artistic manager of the Solsberg Festival.
